How to Get Rid of My Post-Pregnancy Belly Fat?

So, you just gave birth? Congratulations! Now’s the time to enjoy your new baby but maybe there’s something else at the back of your mind. How can you get in shape again post-pregnancy? In this blog, I’ll try to answer some of your questions.

Before we start, I must confess that I’m not an expert on babies, but I have treated many postpartum patients, and I’ll try to help you with some tips for making the journey back to your ideal shape.

So, let’s get started…

Is It Really Possible to Get Rid of Post-Pregnancy Belly Fat?

Indeed it is! After a few months of pregnancy, it’s perfectly normal to be worried about how your body will look after giving birth. But, contrary to what you might think, recovering your pre-pregnancy body is absolutely possible.

As well as following some of the advice in this blog, achieving this goal will require effort and perseverance on your part. And, I need to be honest with you, returning to your previous shape will depend on multiple factors, not all of which we can control!

How Long Does It Take to Get Rid of the Fat?

Usually, it’ll take a few months to achieve this goal. You’re not going to get fit again in a couple of days! And it is not just a matter of time…you have to be consistent and patient too.

When is it advisable to start the plan? Well, you’re free to choose but experts advise you to wait a few weeks before starting, at least until you finish your lactation period. Always follow your doctor’s recommendations.

Anyway, the consensus among professionals is that there’s a golden period for mothers who want to get in shape again: between six months and a year after giving birth. Your body will be more receptive to working out and achieving the best outcome.

A List Of Do’s for Getting Rid of Belly Fat

Exercise

weight lifting

Though this may seem obvious, exercise is probably the most important thing you can do to achieve your goals. In fact, it’s recommended for everyone, not just post-pregnancy mothers! Jog, swim or find a toning routine. Especially one that targets your abdomen and back.

I usually recommend to my patients that along with abdomen routines there are also vacuum exercises. The combination of both routines achieves excellent results for postpartum recovery. Here’s a video that I usually share with my patients!

Pro Tip: remember to make it progressive. You’re not training to run the next marathon!

A Balanced Diet

diet

A balanced diet is the second most important step in flattening your belly after pregnancy. In fact, many experts say healthy eating is even more important than exercise. What seems certain is that a combination of exercise and diet will destroy that fat!

To tell the truth, I’m no expert in nutrition so I won’t waste your time by giving advice on this topic. I’d recommend that you contact a professional nutritionist. They’ll customise a diet just for you. The investment is well worth it!

Radio Frequency Therapy

Without a doubt, this is a sure thing. With no side effects, radio frequency therapy allows you to tighten the flabby skin you have after giving birth in just a few sessions (the exact number will depend on different factors). Although there are multiple brands on the market, our clinic offers one of the most recognised in the world: Indiba.

This is a 100% tested treatment with successful results. World leading technology in the field of skin tightening. Non-invasive pain-free treatments that do not require recovery time after sessions. If you want to know more about Indiba and how this technology can help reduce belly fat, get in touch with us!

If you had a caesarean delivery, Indiba technology will also help you by accelerating the cicatricial process and reducing inflammation, so the results will be even more satisfactory.

Breastfeeding

breastfeeding

Yes, you read that correctly. As strange as it may seem, breastfeeding will help reduce fat. This is 100% guaranteed. Why? Your body will be working hard to produce more and more milk and therefore it’ll burn more calories. This is not an opinion: several studies have confirmed that breastfeeding mothers lose more weight than those who do not.

Although not the goal of this blog, breastfeeding will not only benefit you, but also your baby. I understand this can be an emotive subject for many new mothers, and you are completely free to make your own choices, but I just want to make you aware of these facts.

A List Of Don’ts for Getting Rid of Belly Fat

Losing your belly isn’t only about what you should be doing, but also what you should avoid doing. Because yes, there are a couple of things that can ruin all your good intentions, so please avoid them.

Don’t Get Obsessed

This is easier said than done, but you must stay focused without losing control of the situation. Avoid getting obsessed with your plan. As I said earlier, getting rid of that belly is going to take a good few months in the best case scenario, so you have to be patient.

Only those who are consistent will succeed. But those people must also be rational. Again, don’t get obsessed with the idea. Your entire life shouldn’t be revolving around getting fit. You have more important things right now to worry about: don’t turn this into another one. And, above all, don’t get overwhelmed if it takes more time than initially planned or if your plan is not fully completed.

Miracle Creams

Keeping your skin hydrated and regular massages in the area are undoubtedly two essential things to help with your scarring and tightening processes. But be careful: unfortunately not all creams work. Talk to your doctor, midwife or even your usual pharmacist to get the best option for you!

Postpartum Belts

Currently, there is some debate about whether postpartum belts are useful for women who want to lose weight. Some experts recommend them and others don’t.

Well, I have left this point until the end because, in my opinion, a postpartum belt should only be used as a last resort. I’m not a fan of these types of solutions. I do believe there are other options. In my opinion, there is no better natural belt than an abdomen routine as mentioned in the exercise section.
