The Mummy MOT

What is a Mummy MOT®?

A Mummy MOT® is a specialised postnatal physiotherapy assessment designed to evaluate the physical changes your body has undergone after childbirth—whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-section.

Pregnancy and birth can place significant strain on the body, often leading to weakness in the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Many women experience symptoms such as back or pelvic pain, bladder or bowel issues, or a persistent tummy gap (diastasis recti) in the months and even years after giving birth. While these changes are common, they are not something you have to simply accept.

The Mummy MOT is a comprehensive, 75-minute assessment that includes:

  • A full postural screen
  • A pelvic floor muscle evaluation (if appropriate)
  • An abdominal wall examination to check for separation (diastasis recti)
  • Screening for bladder, bowel, and sexual dysfunction

It is recommended to have a Mummy MOT at around 6-8 weeks postpartum, but it’s never too late to seek treatment. Whether you recently gave birth or have been living with symptoms for years, this assessment can help you regain strength, confidence, and control over your body.

At The Manual Therapy Clinic, we are here to support your recovery journey with expert care and tailored treatment plans to help you feel your best again.
