Pregnancy Massage in Edinburgh

Pregnancy brings a lot of physical change, and massage can be a safe, effective way to ease the discomfort that often comes with it. Our Pregnancy Massage service is available from the second trimester onwards, once your pregnancy has progressed past the initial stages.

Using gentle, hands-on techniques, our therapists help relieve common pregnancy-related discomforts such as:

  • Lower back and pelvic pain
  • Muscle tension in the neck, shoulders and hips
  • Swelling in the legs and feet
  • General stress and fatigue

Each session is tailored to your stage of pregnancy and any specific areas of discomfort, with your comfort and safety as our priority throughout.

Please note: Pregnancy massage is offered from 13 weeks onwards. If you are in your first trimester, please get in touch and we can advise on the best time to book.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is pregnancy massage safe?

Yes. Pregnancy massage is safe when carried out by a trained therapist using techniques appropriate for your stage of pregnancy. We tailor each session to you, avoiding any areas or techniques that aren’t suitable during pregnancy.

What position will I be in during the massage?

You’ll typically be positioned on your side, supported with pillows for comfort. We avoid lying flat on your back for extended periods, in line with safe pregnancy massage practice.

Why do you only offer this from the second trimester?

The first trimester carries a higher risk of miscarriage, and it’s generally recommended to avoid massage during this early stage as a precaution. From the second trimester onwards, massage is considered safe and can help with the aches and discomforts that often develop as pregnancy progresses.

Will the massage be uncomfortable or painful?

No — pressure is adjusted to your comfort level throughout. Please let your therapist know at any point if you’d like the pressure lightened or an area avoided.

Do I need a referral from my GP or midwife?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with us, though if you have any pregnancy complications, it’s a good idea to check with your midwife or GP beforehand.

How often can I have a pregnancy massage?

This varies from person to person. Some clients book a one-off session for relief, others prefer regular sessions throughout the second and third trimester. Your therapist can advise what’s best for you at your first appointment.
